LIVING ROOM
Niederlande 2011 / Regie: Roderick Hietbrink / 9 Min.

The interior of a Dutch living room is disturbed by the unexpected presence of a large oak tree. Close-ups of different kinds of furniture, potted plants, souvenirs and other personal belongings are carefully depicted. The quiet atmosphere is breached when the large oak tree enters the room, rearranging the interior in a destructive manner. The Living Room thus confronts the viewer with the impact this has to both tree and home, raising questions about their meaning and symbolism within Western culture.

WILDNIS
Deutschland 2013 / Regie: Helena Wittman / 12 Min.

Potatoes have to be peeled, withered orchid blossoms must be plucked. Then everything is in order.
In addition to demonstrating the unexpected complexities of individual life paths, THE WILD establishes the possibility of “cinematic space” becoming a type of “third space”. Two seemingly contrasting spaces merge to construct a new space. The first space is the living room of a retired couple. The second space is embodied in Super 8 recordings filmed by the old man during his numerous trips to Africa and Asia during the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. The pictures show exotic animals which are projected directly onto the walls and furniture of the house. The assembly of these differing spaces does not create a more succinct boundary between them, but rather assists in the mingling of the two spaces. In this fleeting moment of third space, as it is limited by time, a new cinematic reality is formed.

NAYA – DER WALD HAT TAUSEND AUGEN
Niederlande 2021 / Regie: Sebastian Mulder / 24 Min.

The short documentary NAYA – Der Wald hat tausend Augen follows the life of Naya, a wolf that walked from East Germany to Belgium tagged with a GPS collar. The first wolf in Belgium in a hundred years, she suddenly makes headlines – but then her presence takes a mysterious turn. This voyeuristic visual collage of wildlife and surveillance camera imagery captivatingly explores the relationship between humans and this iconic wild animal.

LE CHANT DE L’ARBRE
Frankreich 2009 / Regie: Elsa Werth / 7 Min.

5 WALKS – HERCYNIA SILVA
Niederlande 2008 / Regie: Anna Abrahams / 15 Min.

Secretive, splendid, idyllic – that’s not what a wood is itself. We fill it with significance using images and stories about hunters and their prey and encounters with mythical beings. Culture annexes nature by giving it a soul. The first part of a film series about the cultural significance of disappearing European landscapes.

REIGN OF SILENCE
